Feed Bin Capacity Estimator
Pick a common bin style and diameter, rings or wall height, hopper angle, and a bulk density from product texture or your own measured value — get an approximate product-specific capacity.
How it calculates
- Body height = rings × ring height (default 32″ / 0.813 m; alternate 44″ / 1.118 m).
- Hopper height = ((body diameter − outlet diameter) / 2) × tan(hopper angle). Volume uses a truncated cone (frustum), not a point tip.
- Roof / hatch volume is not included — same convention as typical plate / sensor capacity tables.
- Capacity (t) = (body + hopper) m³ × bulk density (kg/m³) ÷ 1000.
Bin style
Legs
Hopper bins only. Does not change capacity — suggests common diameters for that frame.
Diameter *
Typical sizes for 6-leg hopper bins:
Ring height
Hopper angle (from horizontal)
Product texture
Pick a texture for a typical starting density, or enter your measured value.
Capacity
Choose style, diameter, rings or height, and bulk density.
Estimates only. Default ring height is 32″ (narrow corrugation); 44″ wide-corrugation is available. Capacity is body cylinder + hopper frustum only — roof/hatch volume is not counted (nominal capacity stops at the eave). Leg count applies to hopper bins only. Texture densities are starting points — use measured density when you have it.
